Within the competences of the Region's Self-Government, the Department performs tasks connected to environmental charges, databases concerning the environment, protection of nature and landscape, ecological education and promotion of pro-ecological behaviour in the Region.

The basic tasks of the Department include:

1. promotion of pro-ecological activities in the Region;
2. environmental education;
3. performance of tasks in the scope of nature protection under the authority of the Marshal of the Region;
4. carrying out tasks relating to environmental charges and management of databases;
5. handling matters related to the collection, redistribution and recovery of due environmental charges.
