Information Office of the Wielkopolska Region in Brussels

The Information Office of the Wielkopolska Region in Brussels has existed since 2003. The following are its main tasks:

    PROVIDING INFORMATION

The scope of operation of the Information Office of the Wielkopolska Region (BIWW) includes primarily information activities. It means continuous monitoring news coming from EU institutions and bodies and forwarding it to entities in the region. The office maintains contact with the Marshal Office of the Wielkopolska Region departments and subordinate units as well as other Wielkopolska local governments, the science and business sectors, non-governmental organizations and other interested partners. The information provided concerns legal acts, policies, initiatives and EU programmes, important events on the EU agenda, announcements regarding the search for partners for international projects and the region's activity on the EU forum.
The Wielkopolska Office regularly publishes articles on the website wielkopolska.eu and posts information on social media (X, Facebook).

    COOPERATION

The Office cooperates with European Union institutions, primarily the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions. The cooperation also includes members of the European Parliament from Wielkopolska, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union, as well as representatives of Polish regional offices and other Polish institutions and organizations in Brussels.

The Wielkopolska Representation maintains contacts with foreign partner regions and other regions of the European Union. It is also involved in interregional cooperation networks. It enables ongoing exchange of information, involvement in initiatives for common regional interests and the organization of conferences, debates and other events promoting regions and their demands in the field of selected EU policies.

    REPRESENTING THE REGION

The Office's task is also to represent the interests of the region at the international level. For the purpose, BIWW maintains contact with European Union institutions, primarily the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions. The office mediates in open consultations organized by EU institutions and in the development of the region's positions on EU policies.

Representing regional interests is also possible thanks to involvement in interregional cooperation networks, i.e. the European Regions Research and Innovation Network ERRIN, the Peri Urban Regions Platform Europe (PURPLE) and the Coalition of European Agricultural Regions AGRIREGIONS. They also enable increasing the visibility of the region among European partners and including the region in international projects.

SUPPORT FOR REGION REPRESENTATIVES AND ACTIVITY IN THE EUROPEAN COMMITTEE OF THE REGIONS

BIWW also supports the activities undertaken by representatives of the regional government in EU institutions and bodies, especially in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). Marek Woźniak, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, plays the role of, among others: Vice-President of the CoR and a member of the Bureau, member of the Bureau of the European People's Party political group, and chairman of the Polish delegation. BIWW employees act as coordinators of the Polish delegation to the European Committee of the Regions.

The Office also supports representatives of the Board of the Region and the Regional Parliament through organizing visits to Brussels, supporting their activities in interregional cooperation networks and providing information on topics related to their activities in the regional government.

    PROMOTING THE REGION IN EUROPE

BIWW organizes, independently or in partnership with EU institutions, other regions, networks and diplomatic missions, seminars and thematic conferences promoting the Wielkopolska Region in Brussels and Europe. The representative office of our region also participates in events promoting the economic and research potential, culture, tourism of the region and regional cuisine.
